Who is it aimed at?
This specialization diploma is aimed at designers, architects, interior designers, and spatial professionals seeking to deepen their expertise in lighting applied to interior, architectural, and urban spaces.
The program is ideal for professionals with prior experience in design, architecture, or visual arts, wishing to specialize in light as a project, expressive, and atmospheric tool.
It is also open to recent graduates and professionals from other disciplines motivated to enter the field of lighting, gaining skills to professionalize in lighting design through practical project-based learning, masterclasses, and technical visits.
What You Will Learn
You will learn to design and manage light in interior and exterior spaces, combining technical, creative, and perceptual criteria. The program covers the physical and emotional fundamentals of light, its relationship with architecture and visual behavior, and the tools needed to create coherent, sustainable, and expressive atmospheres.
You will work with layers of light, spatial narrative, and the structure of a professional lighting project from conceptual design to execution. You will learn about stage, museum, architectural, and urban lighting, as well as efficiency, comfort, and sustainability criteria applied to the night environment.
You will also master representation, calculation, and lighting simulation tools to validate proposals, and participate in workshops and technical visits connecting you with industry-leading companies and professionals.
Methodology
• Theoretical classes for conceptual and technical foundations.
• Practical workshops with real or simulated projects and collaboration with companies.
• Masterclasses by leading professionals.
• Projects with presentation and defense before experts.
• Internships at companies (optional and extracurricular; validated according to program path and company availability).

Curriculum of Lighting Atmospheres Design: Light and Space
Foundations and Languages of Light in Space (3 ECTS)
This module introduces light as a key element in spatial perception and construction. Through theory and practical exercises, students explore the physical, perceptual, and historical bases of architectural lighting. Light’s role in shaping volume, creating atmosphere, and giving narrative meaning to spaces is studied, along with project-specific methodologies and tools. Sessions include graphic representation and technical visits.
Inhabiting Light (3 ECTS)
This module deepens the study of light in interior spaces, analyzing it as a tool to generate atmosphere, functionality, and visual comfort. Students learn to relate light to space use, typology, and character, employing materials, surfaces, and calculation tools as design resources. The approach balances perceptual sensitivity and technical criteria.
Languages of Light (3 ECTS)
Analyzes the expressive and artistic dimension of light through stage, museum, and installation references. The goal is to understand light as a language capable of generating emotion, narrative, and meaning. Students develop their own criteria for applying these principles to architectural or experimental projects.
Light and City: Identity and Sustainability (3 ECTS)
This module addresses public and urban space lighting as a tool to build identity, enhance safety, and improve environmental quality. Technical, regulatory, and environmental criteria are studied, emphasizing light pollution and night sky preservation. Students develop a critical, sustainable perspective on urban light, considering wellbeing, landscape, and biodiversity.
Light and Future: Wellbeing, Health, and Environmental Awareness (3 ECTS)
The final module reflects on the relationship between light, health, and wellbeing, and its impact on daily life. Human Centric Lighting principles and the biological and psychological effects of light are studied. Emerging trends balancing technology, emotion, and environmental responsibility are explored. Culminates with a transversal project synthesizing all acquired learning, opening new professional perspectives in an evolving sector.
