This course, together with the Lighting Atmospheres Design programme, is part of the Advanced Diploma in Lighting Design: Product and Space at Eina.

Who is it aimed at?

This course is aimed at designers, engineers, architects, and product professionals seeking to specialize in luminaires and lighting systems design.

It is intended for individuals with prior experience in design, technology, or industrial processes who wish to gain a complete understanding of light applied to products, from conceptualization to industrialization.

The program is also open to recent graduates and professionals from other creative or technical disciplines motivated to specialize in lighting, providing a pathway through practical, technology-driven training connected to real industry projects.

What You Will Learn

In this specialization course, you will learn to design innovative lighting products integrating creativity, technology, and sustainability. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the process, from the fundamentals of light to the materialization and industrialization of the product.

You will work with light sources, optics, electronics, and drivers, developing coherent and expressive luminaires while considering narrative, user experience, and formal identity. You will also apply regulations, certifications, and eco-design and circularity strategies.

Through workshops and company visits, you will gain hands-on experience with technology and industrial processes. This training prepares you to work as a lighting product designer, mastering the full process from idea to prototype and production.

Methodology

• Theoretical classes for conceptual and technical foundations.
• Practical workshops with real or simulated projects and collaboration with companies.
• Masterclasses by leading professionals.
• Projects with presentation and defense before experts.
• Internships at companies (optional and extracurricular; validated according to program path and company availability).

Professional Opportunities

The Advanced Studies Course in Lighting Product Design: Light and Object prepares students to advance their careers in industry companies or through their own professional projects. The program combines technical knowledge, creativity, and strategic vision to develop a complete profile in the field of lighting.

Notable professional opportunities: lighting designer, lighting product designer, technical consultant, entrepreneurship, teaching, or research roles. These positions involve designing atmospheres and visual experiences, creating innovative and sustainable solutions, integrating technology and current regulations, and working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

Curriculum of Lighting Product Design: Light and Object

Light as the Origin of Design (3 ECTS)
This module introduces the essential principles of light as an expressive and functional resource in product design. Visual perception, the physical and aesthetic qualities of light, and its ability to generate form, identity, and meaningful experiences are explored.

From Concept to Experience (3 ECTS)
This module focuses on the process of turning an initial idea into a clear and structured proposal. Students will learn to define and communicate lighting design concepts using technical, narrative, and visual criteria. Safety, prototyping, and user experience are also addressed to ensure coherent and functional products.

Lighting Engineering (3 ECTS)
An introduction to the internal functioning of a lighting product. LED technologies, optical and electronic systems, and emerging smart solutions are presented. The module explores the direct relationship between technical decisions and the luminous, aesthetic, and expressive quality of the final piece.

Producing with Purpose: Industry and Sustainability (3 ECTS)
A space to understand how a design is transformed into a real product. Students will learn about industrial processes, sustainability and environmental responsibility criteria, and circularity strategies. Emphasis is placed on working with suppliers, selecting materials, and the technical dialogue required to bring a product to production.

Light and Projection: Innovation, Wellbeing, and Professional Identity (3 ECTS)
This final module synthesizes the training journey and the student’s professional projection. It covers human-centered lighting trends, the relationship between light and wellbeing, and technological innovations applied to lighting product design. Students define their professional identity and work on entrepreneurship strategies, brand collaborations, and project communication. The course culminates with the development and presentation of the final project before industry experts.
