EINA is currently carrying out the renovation of a building to will house new workshops and production spaces. Located on Carrer Bosc, in the district of Sarrià, and at the foot of the Collserola Natural Park, the new facilities will not only allow an expansion of learning and research spaces at EINA, but it will also enable new design and artistic processes, experimental dynamics, ecologies, and collaborations, as well as an increase in its cultural activity in dialogue with the city.
The construction process of EINA Bosc will go along with an artistic intervention program structured in two series: Ambushes and Anarchitecture Seminar. Led by renowned artists, designers, and architects from Barcelona’s creative tissue and with a recognized trajectory beyond it, these interventions will combine performative, discursive, ephemeral, conceptual, and meta-structural formats. Its development, radically contextual and conceptually open, is in its whole destined to reveal the potencial of the future location, while influencing the orientation of future activities and resources of the school.
Envisioned to promote a real-time understanding and potential transformation of the construction process, every proposal will be a reaction to the transformation of the site and one more aspect of the work process. On the other hand, such actions are geared toward the observation of architecture and will generate actions to document, probe, and measure it, underlining the performative value of both the construction, the observation of and interaction with it. The features of the building, its limits, the new elements as well as the remnants and residuals, will appear as collaborative agents following different scripts. Thus emerge not only the potential of the new building and the workshops to come, but also the distinct memory layers of the place. Design projection is, in this sense, understood as recognition and anamnesis.
This program of invitations is conducted by Eina Idea in dialogue with the artist Jordi Colomer. The collaborative element will be key in the development of both individual proposals (Ambushes) and collective thinking (Anarchitecture Seminar). Each project will be carried out in collaboration with EINA students, who will be given the opportunity to participate in groups – as part of various established courses – or individually, through specific calls for participation. The development of workshops will be, in certain aspects, face-to-face and, in case of need or legal restriction, digital.
All proposals will be presented to the public on particular dates, during which the building’s doors will be open to visitors upon registration and following the required health and safety protocols. The schedule of interventions, public demonstrations, visits, and encounters will be published throughout 2021 and 2022.
