Ambush #9: Jorge Satorre

In collaboration with La Papelería (Madrid)—a venue known for hosting radical site-specific art interventions—Ambush #9: Jorge Satorre presents a process of spatial exploration and speculation within the venue's exhibition space. The involvement of a blacksmith as a guest in the project serves as the starting point for a workshop that explores the dialogue between welding and drawing, threshold and human conduit, architecture and anatomy. Thus, this Ambush explores the parallels between the hidden parts of La Papelería and the inner workings of the human body. Over the course of a week, the group works on repetitive drawing exercises based on stories told by the blacksmith, Daniel Domingo Schweitzer, about his digestion, ailments, work accidents, fractures, and healing processes. Simultaneously, the workshop leads to the collective construction and permanent installation of a staircase that provides access, through a pre-existing opening, to a mezzanine located above the bathroom and part of the exhibition space. The graphic process ultimately converges with an intervention in the architecture of the space: the workshop concludes with an exercise where each participant draws each of their teeth on the walls in complete darkness, perceiving them only with their tongue. Ambush #9 thus responds to the accessibility of La Papelería's space through a constructive and graphic practice, also allowing the group to undergo a process of embodying techniques, data, and intimacies related to blacksmithing.
