Nòs amb Nòs

The proposed project is a refurbishment of a refuge in Cala Prona, in Cap de Creus. The aim is to create a house to accommodate a chef wishing to escape from the frenetic pace of modern-day kitchens and develop his or her creativity away from the vicious circle of competition in the cooking world.

The project consists of adapting and refurbishing a building that has fallen into disuse, whilst respecting its prior history, surroundings and interior. The goal is to create an isolated space where the cook can plan new projects and ideas in a humble kitchen: ideas that are born surrounding environment, making for a profound creative experience.

The art of cooking has evolved spontaneously with the passage of time; even so, traditional recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation are the essence of the culinary world, and form the backbone of modern cooking.

New ideas have always from from tradition, but it is in this last decade that a completely new culinary form has evolved: avant-garde cuisine. This development is governed by new parameters, with the chef aiming to surprise the diner by involving all five senses in the presentation of a plate. But how was the dish prepared? What inspired its creator? How many hours were invested in it? Is it the work of the chef, or of the whole kitchen team? Michelin-star chefs tell that every award is the result of endless hours invested in the kitchen. It is for this reason that chefs abandon themselves and everyone around them to focus exclusively on their master projects.

This was the starting point for my final project: to create both a personal and a professional experience. Hypothetically, the chef in question would be completely isolated in the refuge in Cala Prona during the season of his or her choice, to work on their own goals with the support of the on-site facilities.

The individual proposals will vary, but the intention is to take advantage of the refuge's setting, in a national park, to recharge batteries and return to the simple, sincere cooking style of the Mediterranean tradition.

Currently, the refuge is something of a ruin, and requires an interior design project to create a comfortable living area and a space that encourages culinary creation.

However, the home is not a simple dwelling, but a diffuse and complex state that integrates memories and images, desires, fears, past, present and future. It is a place for rituals, personal rhythms and routines. A home cannot be built in a day; it has a temporary dimension and continuity, and is the product of the individual's gradual adaptation to the world around.
