The design of spaces in restaurants, thesis by Amadeu Ventayol

Amadeu Ventayol, graduate of the Master's Degree in Research in Art and Design (MURAD) and doctoral student of the Research in Design and Art itinerary of EINA, attached to the Doctoral Programme in Philosophy of the UAB, publicly presents his thesis "El diseño de espacios en los restaurantes” (The design of spaces in restaurants) on Thursday 18 May at 5pm in the Sala de Grados of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of the UAB.

"El diseño de espacios en los restaurantes” has been directed by Dr. Raúl Oliva and has counted with the collaboration of restaurants such as Manairó, Las Magnolias, Enigma, Disfrutar and Trikini. As Amadeu Ventanyol, a former student of the Bachelor of Design, comments: "It is a menu that has been simmering for five years".

His thesis is based on a search, a journey through time from the 17th century to the present day, to show the importance of space in restaurants, to explain the transformation of elBulliRestaurant into a post-restaurant, and to question whether the term restaurant is still valid.

The study carried out shows how in recent years, with special attention to the digitalisation of restaurants emphasised by La Covid-19, there has been, on the one hand, the consolidation of Dark Kitchens and Digital Restaurants. And on the other, that social networks with graphic representation tools, and now also artificial intelligences, have reprogrammed the creative process of the designer and the dining experience in a restaurant, thus originating the Restaurant Algorithm.
