Abel Vallhonesta i Massana

Graduated in Plastic Arts and Arts & Crafts in sculpture speciality at Arts and Crafts School La Llotja. Since 1991 collaborates with Professor and Sculptor Francesc Carulla i Serra where important works are carried out, for exemple the facade sculptural ensemble of Santa Eulalia de Vilapicina Church (Barcelona 1998), the sculptures of Santa Joaquima de Vedruna, San Josep Oriol, San Josep Manyanet and Santa Joana de Lestonnac in the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia (Barcelona 2002 and 2006); the monoliths to Sant Josep Manyanet, Sant Francesc Coll and the Santa Joana de Lestonnac (Montserrat mountain, 2011) the sculpture of the Mare de Deu and Santa Joana de Lestonnac (Almeria 2011); the altarpiece of the Church of the Mare de Deu de Montserrat (Viladecans 2012).

Since 1994, he works in his own studio in collaboration with his partner Estrella Requena researching in new materials and plastic techniques and the creation of spaces, scenographic elements and restoration of monuments and sculptures of the heritage of Barcelona. Highlighting, the Colorado’s Canyon Mountains, the sculpture of Horse giving a kick for Port Aventura (Vila-Seca, Salou), for the Museum of the History of Catalonia, several recreations of historical environments and sculptures for the permanent exhibition, distributed in 7 stages from the Paleolithic to the 80s, all in collaboration with M.B.s.a Studies.

Among the most relevant restorations he has collaborated are the restoration of La Fuont del Geni Català (Barcelona 2008), La Font de la Granota (Barcelona 2010), the Hèrcules fountain (Barcelona 2011), the Nen dels Càntirs fountain (Barcelona 2015), 2 monumental angels sculptures in Parc de la Ciutadella (Barcelona 2017). Recently he has just restored the backside of the sculptural ensemble of Venus i les Nàiades in the waterfall of Parc de la Ciutadella, (Barcelona 2019). All of them commissioned by the Department of Urban Projects and Heritage of the City Council of Barcelona.

Since 2013, he works at EINA, Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona, as a workshop teacher.
