The Master’s course is comprised of two postgraduate diplomas, which can also be studied independently:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Design of Graphic Elements (30 ECTS)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Web Design (30 ECTS)
The Master’s course is vocational in orientation and completes the general qualifications courses (Graduate, Higher Graduate and Design Graduate), and those of students who have studied a different specialisation, itinerary or mention from graphic design (design of spaces, product design, fashion or textile design). The contents of the Master’s course are aimed at professionals who use graphic design applications intensively and who feel the need to take an active part in the formalisation, management and/or production processes of projects. In this sense, the Master’s course provides professional competence in the different tasks of responsibility in graphic design processes, be it as self-employed work or as part of agencies and studios offering graphic design services, or also in the graphic design departments of companies and institutions.
- Editorial design
- Brand design and corporate identity.
- Art direction.
- Creative direction.
- Graphic design applied to volume (spaces and packaging).
- Design management (graphic production processes).
- Design of graphic user interfaces.
- Web design and layout.
- User experience design.
- Creation of experimental and narrative web projects.
- Creation of motion graphics.
Module: Graphic Design Resources
9 ECTS
-
Typography
The subject offers intensive training in the theoretical and practical aspects of typography, a good grasp of which is essential for undertaking professional graphic design projects these days. The theoretical contents are accompanied by independent exercises and projects where the students will put into practice, investigate and experiment with the aspects covered in class. -
IT Resources
Proposals will be given of automatic correction and modification formulae, concept formalisation optimisation and the execution of originals.
Comparison of the technical options of each program (editing, illustration and photographic retouching) and the symbiotic relationship between them, emphasising the compatibilities and coexistence between programs theoretically and practically.
Module: Management and Production in the Graphic Design Process
9 ECTS
-
Graphic production
The aim of the subject is to understand and discover the professional relationship that exists between the graphic design professional and the printer, as well as each of the parts that make up the graphic process from the moment the idea takes shape to when it is delivered to its end purpose.
Study of the supports, processes and printing techniques in graphic arts and learning how to prepare originals for their reproduction. -
Design project analysis and management
The principal aim is for the student to familiarise themselves with the craft of designing. To do this, they will have to learn the tools they will need to be able to undertake graphic design projects, both in the framework of independent professional work and for business or institutional organisations.
The subject works on the analysis of the processes that help in the running of a graphic design studio.
Module: Graphic Design Projects
9 ECTS
-
Graphic applications projects
The aim of the course is the exploration, through graphic design tools, and subsequent creation of a series of coordinated elements that will identify a “topic” that will be presented in class. The subject is 100% practical and challenging for the students as they have to face the graphic dissection of the values of the “topic” to work on them separately, achieving practically experimental solutions, absolutely focused on the concept and function of the solution. -
Graphic identity projects
Students will create a primarily people-oriented project, questioning various aspects such as the brand utility, the function/aesthetic dichotomy and the personal attitude towards the creation or towards the users. A basic methodology is used to summarise the results of the design process.
The aim of the subject is to observe the context and meaning of the graphic and visual identity, and to know its elements and process from the point of view of its use, its perception by the public and its stages during its design.
Module: Fundamentals of Web Design
9 ECTS
- Service Design and User Experience. Application of user-centred design methodologies to understand the needs and design process of a digital service from both the user and organisational points of view. The course focuses on the web as a point of contact.
- Inclusive design. To learn the importance of applying the principles of inclusive design and how to apply them to the specific field of the web.
- Sustainability and web ethics. Aspects to take into account when considering sustainable and ethically responsible web design.
- Design and prototyping of web projects. An introduction to the methodological, technical and language procedures involved in the project, by posing design problems and seeking creative solutions by the student in order to understand the main disciplines of a web project.
- Computer resources for web design and prototyping. Learn the computer tools necessary to create the graphic mock-up and the web prototype.
Module: Expression and experimentation projects
9 ECTS
- Design and communication of advanced projects. Create a web design project with an in-depth understanding of the web structure and learn to assess the difficulty of each part. Transmit with technical programming vocabulary what you want to achieve with the design, delivery of materials and resources to be able to communicate it accurately. Understand the Agile methodology and its variants, advantages and limitations.
- Narrative and Storytelling. To explore the narrative potential offered by the interactive features of current web browsers through the creation of a free-themed report in scrollytelling format.
- Motion graphics. The subject helps to understand the importance of video in web design and to acquire basic skills to plan and produce a digital video piece, through knowledge of the basic principles of animation and software to carry out video projects with Adobe After Effects.
Module: Web Production
9 ECTS
- Introduction to Programming. Introduction to programming to allow the designer to understand the complexity of the projects in order to be able to make a good approach, achieve fluid communication and make the most of the technical possibilities. Students will receive extensive knowledge of html/css and some practical cases of javascript, to provide designers with sufficient tools to create and lay out their own designs in html and css plans.
- Site Building. The aim is for students to become familiar with content management systems (CMS) with an emphasis on their internal functioning, which will allow them to plan the design in such a way that the integration is efficient.
- SEO. To learn how web search engines work in order to optimise the proposed structure and web design to favour good positioning in search engines.
- Infographics and data visualisation. Learn the resources and strategies for graphically displaying complex data sets.
