Students of the University Master's Degree in Research in Art and Design (MURAD) and a group of students from the City University of New York (CUNY) participated in the Resilience Thinking Workshop given by Rafael Balanzó, urban designer and professor of the Master's Degree in Social Practice at CUNY, held on 9 January at Sentmenat's facilities.
The aim of the workshop was to introduce students to resilient thinking and provide tools to learn how to deal with existing and future challenges in a highly complex current context. Participants looked for answers to the current systemic crisis, analysed current risks and developed a prospective of ideas, which will finally define how to initiate a sustainable "Transition" process towards the 22nd century.
The workshop provides a methodology to analyse, understand and act on systemic changes (such as climate change, social justice and/or pandemics) based on the study of the evolutionary dynamics of complex system networks such as a territory, a community, a company or an institution. The metaphor of resilience represented by the symbol of infinity allows us to move beyond linear and fragmented thinking towards complex and holistic thinking.
