Presentation of the ARDES course in Art, Design and Sustainability

The ARDES course on Art, Design and Sustainability will be presented online on Thursday 18 April at 3 pm.

It is a free online learning programme that makes available to the entire educational community didactic tools and practical exercises to promote the inclusion of sustainability and climate change within educational programmes, especially for designers and artists.

The course will be presented by Tània Costa, academic director of Eina and coordinator of the University Master's Degree in Research in Art and Design (MURAD); Anna Pujadas, coordinator of the ARDES programme; Rafael de Balanzó Joue, PhD in Sustainability from the UPC, professor at MURAD and the Pratt Institute (NewYork); Federica Pagano, student of MURAD; and Simon Fernandez Katz, student of the Bachelor of Design.

Modular online course

This programme aims to educate students so that their future artistic values, artwork productions and artistic activities help to increase citizens' commitment to climate change mitigation and the promotion of sustainability.

The online course is structured in modules, with thematic introductions and practical exercises, which can be done together or individually. Teachers can apply the content in the way that suits them best: partially, spaced over time, online, face-to-face, etc.

Specifically, there are 3 modules. A first module on sustainability and climate change, its historical perception and its relation to arts and design. A second module on how art and design can contribute to facilitate dialogue, communicate sustainability and climate change and foster learning. And a third module on digital tools for interactive public engagement with art and design.

All these materials are available in English, Spanish, Catalan, Greek and Portuguese. In addition, a teacher's guide has been produced indicating assessment methodologies, competence calculations, activity times and other recommendations.
