The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) opens on May 20 the exhibition Francesc d’A. Galí. The Invisible Master, a project that reclaims the legacy of one of the key figures in 20th-century Catalan art through a contemporary lens. The exhibition is curated by Albert Mercadé —art critic and current president of the ACAC— and features the creative direction and design research of Artur Muñoz, professor of the Bachelor of Design and University Master's Degree in Space Design (MUDE).
The show explores Galí’s legacy, from his artistic production to his influential role as a teacher and reformer of art education. It opens a dialogue with the present through a series of contemporary interventions that reframe his figure using formats such as installation, electronic art and audiovisual language.
The creative team led by Artur Muñoz includes several professionals from the Eina community. Spatial design was carried out by the studio A.P.O., led by Eina alumnus Antoni Pallejà. Art direction —for both the exhibition graphics and communication— is by Virginia Mars, also an alumna, and graphic design was done by the studio Art of Many.
The exhibition features contemporary interventions by several creators linked to Eina:
- ‘Corona d’ulls al cap’: semi-permanent sculpture in the dome room by Anna & Eugeni Bach, Artur Muñoz and Virginia Mars.
- ‘64 colors del Montseny’: light installation by Artur Muñoz, with product design by A.P.O. and systems by Àlex Posada.
- ‘Exercicis de tacte’: interactive installation by Muñoz and Mars, with technology developed by Posada.
- ‘Alçar la mirada i pensar el món’: audiovisual piece by Artur Muñoz and Albert Mercadé, directed by Nani Pujol, featuring voices such as Eudald Carbonell, Ingrid Guardiola, Miguel Missé, Pilar Bonet, among others.
The MNAC exhibition is complemented by Galí: Exile and Escape, on view until July 13 at the Museu Memorial de l’Exili (MUME) in La Jonquera.
