La cuina dels materials. Pràctica del transciclatge a l'espai domèstic (The Cooking of Materials: the Practice of “Transcycling” in Domestic Space)

The project “The Cooking of Materials: the Practice of “Transcycling” in Domestic Space” invents a new concept in recycling culture: “transcycling.” This appears when you force paradigms, such as feeding and expiry dates, to their limits. The person relates to the organic waste through its manipulation giving it symbolic and emotional meaning. The result is a new material and a lesson in waste matter.

To practice transcycling, we need open purpose spaces. A household kitchen has potential to this end. There, the practice of transcycling transforms the meaning of the environment by introducing a new system that complements the existing one: cooking itself but also creating materials with surplus food. This view of the space raises a new hierarchy of the elements of cooking and visibilizes surplus food, placing them in the line of vision. Transcycling proposes that the individual should be the author of meaning, both of food and of space.
