The Winter Pavilion is a structure of 220 square metres on the grass next to the Serpentine Gallery in London’s Hyde Park. It is a structure with a light aspect that provides a play of light and shade with an organic shape, in contrast to the annual phenomenon that occurs in summer with the construction of the Summer Pavilions, and the season for which it will exist. A set of black aluminium tubes with halogen lights at each end arranged in eleven different levels create an effect of raining light and provide a warm space.
The climate conditions are an important factor, so the pavilion has a roof of transparent polycarbonate plates at different levels as protection and windbreak. To achieve this feeling of warmth, some of the polycarbonate sheets are red and create a warm atmosphere inside thanks to a varied range of tones and shades, which are obtained through the lighting of the structure itself.
