An emotional bond and, above all, the desire to undertake a painstaking transformation of the Fargas shop, one of the oldest in Barcelona, form the basis of this proposal. The aim was to recover the essence of the establishment by renovating it and making it more functional and attractive and, at the same time, fitting out the mezzanine for the public to create a tasting area.
The proposed intervention is based on respect, co-existence and dialogue between two eras, between two styles that will come together in a single establishment: past and present. Some of the more characteristic elements of the shop have been selected and recovered and others have not been used. Existing furniture and new fittings have been combined to reveal a clearly distinct language, both in terms of shapes and of the materials and colours of the current elements that have been incorporated.
The project sought to create a single space with two very different ambients created using both the architectural characteristics of the building and the activities that take place in it (ground floor devoted to sales and the mezzanine for tasting).
I have tried to maintain the current feel and not promote any radical changes. For this reason, I have kept the external carpentry which is the face of the shop, and have kept the bakery, which has been made visible to the public (handcrafted products on the premises are one of the elements that characterise this shop).
