Rauxa

Catalan skittles is a traditional Catalan sport that is becoming increasingly less well-known. It is known, however, that it is still widely played in many parts of Catalonia. The aim of Rauxa is to recover this tradition by offering a reinterpretation of the game to bring it to modern society, distancing it from the original aesthetic but continuing with the artisan concept.

In Catalonia there are more than 2,000 registered players and over a hundred clubs competing nationally. This is why the game has to follow strict rules in terms of the weight of the skittles, throwing distance, regulation sizes, etc. This, then, would be interpreted as the sporting part of the game.

The original game consists of six large skittles (bitlles) and three small skittles (bitllots), which in all weigh a total of nearly 15 kg as they are made of solid wood and turned by a craftsman. Rauxa offers a simplification of the game by reducing the weight and shape to a minimum, making them out of plastic and empty inside so that they can be stacked for carrying, but when it comes to playing, their weight is similar to the original by filling them with water, sand or whatever is at hand where the game is played.

The work process undertaken has been as follows: the creation of the moulds (of both the large and the small skittles), the manufacture of the moulding machine and the final prototypes. Through this work, the manufacturing system has been tested and finally verified and the physical prototype of the game and of the machine to produce it has been obtained as a result.
