PORTA APERTA. NEW CONCEPT OF STUDENT RESIDENCE

PORTA APERTA is a new model of student residence, set up in a former hostel for pilgrims, with easy access by public transport and less than thirty minutes from Venice.

This project is born from a problem that touches me closely after having been one of these students who, in September 2022, arrived without accommodation at the Erasmus destination, in my case Venice. Having to carry all the suitcases, along with other students, trying to find somewhere to stay while we tried to continue our studies at the foreign university.

This building, where I propose a refurbishment, was a former hostel for pilgrims in the 13th century. The module consists mainly of six pieces that combined can furnish the whole residence. I have designed a module consisting of pieces that fit together without the need for any kind of glue or auxiliary parts.

With their combination it is possible to create small private bedrooms in which there are three basic structures, from largest to smallest. Everyone can personalise it and fill it with the pieces that suit them. A very small space, but where users can find their privacy.
