Educar a Observar

Educar a Observar

My personal interest in promoting observation as an educational vehicle has led me to analyze the society in which we live and the cognitive and educational methodologies that we have had and currently have.

This project aims to revalue the importance of stopping for a few seconds to observe from proximity and from a distance, from prior knowledge to experimental knowledge and from personal and collective reflections, in order to contextualize and critically interpret the world around us.

The main objective is to create a coherent dialogue between pedagogy and design through a space where workshops are held in which relaxed experimental observation and reflection with shared debate are the pillars. The "Expressart" project of MACBA will be used as a basis, where the first steps to understanding contemporary art are taught.

I remember my grandfather's words when asked by a 10-year-old girl who did not know how to answer.
"Wisdom is in books" (Grandpa Joan)
Perhaps in childhood, this was what was thought, but after all the research carried out, it can be said that books are not an exclusive source of knowledge. Nowadays, learning is combined as the sum of many elements:

- Previous knowledge.
- Motivation to learn (interest)
- Own experimentation.
- Experiences lived that provoke emotions and, therefore, generate feelings that provide us with a memory, a learning.

Life is a collection of memories!

For this reason, the workshop space is conceived as a book with fold-out flaps that, when opened, creates subspaces of experiences, subspaces of memories, learning.

This book-shaped module proposes, with its opening, multiple distributions. It is very versatile, since it can be adapted to the desired space and the number of users who are part of the workshop.

In this case, the workshop of the MACBA "Expressart" project is promoted, which wants a lot of dynamism and mobility within the same space. The designed elements move around the space according to the needs and heights of the users. For this reason, the design of this module could be adapted to other types of workshops, since the furniture is very transformable, and the module has the possibility of adding elements thanks to the attachment of the furniture to the internal steel pillars.

The opening of the different ceilings delimits the space, both in color and lighting, and extends it visually by means of extendable slats.
