¿A mí me consideras negro?

¿A mí me consideras negro?

Fuad Ajibola Kareem, Haji, 4th year student of the Bachelor of Design, presents the exhibition installation "¿A mí me consideras me negro?" (Do you consider me black?) on Thursday 25 May at 8pm in the Sala Periferia Cimarronas (Calle de Cerdanyola, 26).

"¿A mí me consideras negro?” was the question a black/afro-descendant friend asked me if I was "suitable" to participate in the project. Mos Def & Talib Kweli aka Black Star have a song (Thieves In The Night) whose lyrics define the representation of black people in the media "We're either niggas or kings, we're either bitches or queens". These extremes are the role in which whiteness has pigeonholed black people. This project seeks to reinvigorate Negritude from the point of view of black people and people of African descent. Negritude, a term first used in 1934 by the Martinican poet (and politician) Aimé Césaire in France.

This project, which is part of his Final Project for the Bachelor of Design, focuses on the city of Barcelona. A representation of negritude in Barcelona based on the experiences of young people (black and afro-descendant) who live there, writings, recorded conversations and photographs.

This installation, open until 25 June, functions as a "teaser" for what will be the book "¿A mí me consideras me negro?”.
