Lightscapes II: From Respect to Innovation - with the JORDIs of Light

The Catalonia Lighting Cluster (CICAT) and Eina are organising a new session of the Lightscapes – workshops for the World Capital of Architecture series on Tuesday 9 June, focusing on the role of light in interventions within heritage spaces. The session will take place at 6.30 pm at Eina Bosc.

The event proposes a cross-disciplinary reflection on how to re-illuminate architecturally significant environments without altering their essence, understanding light as a tool capable of enhancing existing spaces, adapting them to new uses, and incorporating innovation through formal and technological discretion.

The round table discussion will begin with a fictional yet plausible case study: the re-illumination of a heritage space, such as a historic cloister, a converted industrial building or an exhibition space. From this starting point, the session will address issues related to minimal intervention, architectural integration, lighting quality, efficiency and invisible technology.

The debate will also focus on the entire development process of a lighting project, from the initial reading of the space through to its implementation, incorporating perspectives linked to design, industry, technology and business strategy.

The session will adopt an open and informal format and will include a distinctive feature: all participants share the same first name. This coincidence has inspired the provisional nickname for the event, “The Jordis of Light”, a formula intended to reinforce the approachable and cross-disciplinary nature of the conversation.

The session is aimed at professionals in spatial design, lighting, architecture and interior design, as well as manufacturers, engineering firms, students and anyone interested in the relationship between heritage, light and innovation.

Topics to be explored include the nocturnal reading of heritage spaces, the development of integrated lighting solutions, the incorporation of control systems and sensors through technological invisibility, and the value of the Catalan ecosystem in connecting architecture, industry and light.

The Lightscapes series reflects the institution’s commitment to linking education and professional practice, in dialogue with the Advanced Studies Programme in Lighting Design: Product and Space, which explores light as a material capable of shaping the relationship between people and architecture.
