INTRA-ACCIÓ

INTRA-ACCIÓ Symposium: Call For Papers

INTRA-ACCIÓ is the Symposium organised by the Research Group on Aesthetics and Theory of Design and Art (GRETDA) of EINA, which will take place in October 2024.

This event aims to address the different material and social agencies that are being configured in the practices of art, criticism and design, as an act of consciousness and 'respons-ability'.

Karen Barad introduced the concept of 'intra.action' to point to the mutual constitution of interlocking agencies. Unlike 'interaction', where the assumption is that separate individual agencies exist prior to their interaction, the notion of intra-action recognises that the process is internal to the phenomenon-relationship itself.

Within the theme of the symposium, 4 thematic lines are proposed:

1. Human-artistic affections, where proposals are invited that, from art and design, propose approaches and conceptions of science and technology decentred from human agency and interested in socio-technical assemblages and hybrids from the care of matter.

2. Intra-disciplinary Mattering, which encourages reflection on what forms of mattering, distinction, manipulation and the like are to be found within the phenomenon of intra-action and which result from or emerge from the field of art and design.

3. The historical entanglement, which calls for the formulation of observation apparatuses that allow us to inquire into the material conditions that have led us to a planet in emergency and to raise the particular possibility of influencing the future from another material ethic.

4. Multi-agency relationalities, which encourages thinking about the collective or community from a situational science that is not reduced to an epistemological approach, but demands, in itself, multi-agency relationalities.

The Call for Papers for INTRA-ACCIÓ is open from 15 December 2023 and we welcome proposals in an open and innovative format that address any of the thematic lines mentioned above.

These proposals must be submitted in abstract format with a maximum length of 500 words in Catalan or Spanish and in English. In the case of biographies, they should have a maximum length of 250 words and be written in English. Both documents should be sent in two files in Word or RTF format attached to: symposium@eina.cat
