Elisabeth Boix and Inés Padilla, students of the Bachelor of Design, have won the Golden Award at the latest edition of the Glassberries Design Awards with their project Baiza, a high-end olive oil bottle inspired by traditional botijas—clay vessels used to store precious liquids.
The jury highlighted: “Their outstanding vision, conceptual clarity, and excellence in sustainable design truly set them apart”.
The Glassberries Design Awards are European prizes that promote creativity, sustainability, and the connection between industry and academia. This year’s challenge focused on designing a new line of glass containers for olive oil with criteria based on innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
Baiza, developed within the Packaging course taught by professor Àlex Jiménez, stands out for its refined silhouette: narrower at the base and wider at the neck, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of an ancient shape. Instead of a traditional handle, it features two subtle notches that improve grip and add character. At the top, a discreet dispenser prevents dripping, and a wooden cap adds a touch of natural warmth.
The project name, Baiza, draws from the historical heritage linked to the land and the value of olive oil, seeking a dialogue between tradition and modernity. The serif typography and shiny finishes in vibrant tones such as orange turn the bottle into an object that inspires, moves, and endures.
The awards ceremony took place on June 26 in Seville.
