Eina and TMDC: metal as a creative language

To delve into metalworking processes and discover the aesthetic, material and cultural dimensions of the industry. With this aim in mind, second-year students on the Bachelor in Design, taking the Technologies subject led by Jordi Esteve, visited TMDC (Workshop for the Materialisation and Development of (Grand) Concepts) on 18 May.

The day involved a tour of the production processes: from cutting the iron to shaping the tube, from welding to the final finish. Each process revealed a way of engaging with the material, where technical precision coexists with formal sensitivity and design thinking.

In this context, the factory becomes a space for observation and learning; a territory in which metal ceases to be merely a structure and becomes a language. The sparks, textures and traces of manufacturing weave a visual narrative that connects industry, craftsmanship and contemporary creation.

The experience champions industrial culture as a living heritage and highlights production processes as an essential part of design practice. TMDC thus opens the doors to its material universe for a new generation of creators, inviting them to understand the beauty that lies in the transformation of materials.
