Westchester Library: Adapting culture to urban change

Given society’s evolution towards more innovative approaches to learning and cultural transmission, there is a strong need to adapt the concept of the library to these new challenges. This project was born from this belief, with the aim of transforming Westchester Library, built in 2003 in the county of Los Angeles, California. The project strove to make the library relevant to its changing surroundings, fulfilling the social, cultural and technological needs of its users and current residents and making it the neurological centre of the city of Westchester. As part of this objective, the project was also designed to adapt itself to all future societal needs that might present themselves.
