RLab emerged from the conceptual fusion between restaurant and laboratory. There is a saying which goes, Knowledge is power, and RLab takes this idea to the world of gastronomy. Eating from ignorance does not taste the same as eating from knowledge. RLab is a space where the quality of foods is as important as what, until now, was unknown to us.
RLab’s design and art direction make very extensive and scientific information become more customer-friendly. We transform something difficult into something complex and this complexity into something interesting. RLab is unique due to the way it presents information: computer graphic letters; letters for personalised wine tastings; dishes with information printed on the plate which interacts with the food, etc.
The “role” of RLab has been the essential part that has required studying. The graphics emerged from this study at the very moment when we discovered the most logical way of displaying information. One of RLab’s strong points is that not only is it a medium, but an end in itself.
The aim of the RLab project is to make a different entrance into the culinary world. To disseminate the culture of knowledge in the field of gastronomy, RLab combines haute cuisine and communicative design in a space where both parts are of equal importance.
