Organoleptic map of herbs and spices used in cooking

A 170x100 cm poster displays a wide range of culinary spices that have been classified according to their flavour (taste + aroma + pungency). The focus of this project, aimed at everyone with an interest in the subject, particularly chefs and professionals from the culinary sector, is to promote experimentation and creativity through a knowledge of resources. The graphic challenge lay in presenting the information in a clear, well thought-out, practical, synthetic, thorough, visual and attractive way.

After a thorough research and information selection process to determine the classification parameters of the spices, the graphic resources that best convey this information were identified. Level one highlights the similarity in flavour through a system of columns and the use of colours. Level two shows which part of the plant is used: each one is allocated a box shape. Level three is for other specifications. The map includes an index, method of use and a legends key.

This project offers an innovative idea: a new system for the classification of spices that can be expanded and which has a practical purpose. Here, infography is viewed as a powerful communication tool that is outstanding thanks to its immediacy.
