The farmhouse is in Llagostera, in the Cadiretes forestry reserve. This situation favours it thanks to the tranquillity it enjoys and the nature surrounding it. It dates from 1800 and has been rented since 1970 by a number of families using it for weekend stays. This use has now declined due to the bad condition of the building. The aim of the project is to recover the use that Can Pata has always had.
It follows the typical structure of a Catalan farmhouse, with few openings. More connection with the outside is established. The core is an opening from the living room that connects the inside with the courtyard and the outside.
The load-bearing walls condition the space a great deal. The aim is to achieve open spaces with the minimum number of divisions possible. By contrast, divisions will be made on the first floor to create reserved spaces. The central wall and the staircase establish a central circulation.
The whole is formed by four modules of different sizes. In order to create order, a perpendicular is laid out on the floor that encompasses the kitchen island, the living room, the core and the swimming pool. These are the most frequently used spaces. The natural stone, wood beams and adobe contrast with the contemporary furniture.
