L’Aixopluc

The Mercat del Pla district is a neighbourhood located in the historic heart of Lleida, which began to deteriorate a few years ago and to live with constant problems that led to the rest of the city to reject it. In recent years, with the aim of revitalising the neighbourhood, leisure spaces have opened (shops and restaurants) that have enabled people to walk there once again and live out in the streets, but this is not enough and the problems continue.

To solve this problem, we propose L’Aixopluc (The Shelter), a social centre that acts as a nerve centre from where activities aimed at promoting the values of this "new" district are promoted, taking as the basis the concepts of education, coexistence, citizenship, freedom, cooperation and sustainability. To make the project possible, the project transforms disused premises and land into a social facility comprised of a play centre, a work space, classrooms, a multi-purpose space and the existing open courtyard.

The action goal is to create a meeting space to generate life, cohesion and more of a feeling of identity in the neighbourhood to bring the people who live there, predominantly immigrants, closer to the other people of Lleida.
