The Good Patriot

In the style of fantasy role-playing games, The Good Patriot imagines a parallel universe (worldbuilding) with the aim of exploring various issues inherent to the capitalist system and their long-term consequences. Future design is used to create a fictional world closely aligned with late-stage capitalism and its characteristics: from the map where the action takes place to the characters, including clothing, flags, and culture.


The project follows the model of a role-playing game module or scenario: it narrates a brief adventure within a larger campaign world, in book format. Within the theoretical exercise of understanding and properly configuring the fictional world of The Good Patriot, concepts such as capitalist realism (M. Fisher) and the commodification and consciousness of the proletariat (G. Lukács) are explored.

The goal is to illustrate a series of concerns and reflections about the world and the system in uncertain times, like the present; and to do so through a different practice—worldbuilding—which also serves as a tool for both artistic and intellectual development.
