Design of a school, when it is based on an education model

This project consists of remodelling the primary education building at the Aragai school in Vilanova i la Geltrú. This school is part of a series of buildings that were created in a standardised design that did not take architectural values into consideration.

The aim of the proposal was to make radical transformations to a building based on an active school model to demonstrate that the physical space of a school can be modified in accordance with decision-making processes within education.

When designing the project, we started from the premise that the school had to imitate the diversity of the city, it had to contain public and private spaces and it had to establish a correspondence between the corridor-street and the classroom-home.

The interior space has been divided into different types of areas for different types of activities and groups of students at different levels of education. The spaces are divided into: dynamic activities, static activities and activities of reflection.
