The project proposes an intervention in Girona’s old town which consists of creating a space that functions as a bar-bookshop in the chapel of Santa Lucía. The aim of this intervention is to culturally develop one of the areas of the northern part of the district and renovate a building currently not in use.
My intention is to create an interesting space eschewing the conventionalism of the usual bar and improving the design of this type of bar-bookshop both functionally and aesthetically. The aim is that the intervention is linked to its environment and respects it, especially in its dialogue with the existing architecture.
The unique leading element in the project is the bar-counter in the bar. This is a complex structure, based on a combination of projecting and exempt volumes in the space, in front of a continuous bench which acts as a splash of colour, and a series of mobile bookshop modules, completed with two spaces for armchairs and coffee tables.
In addition, access has been improved, adjacent constructions have been reused as a service area, a porch has been added to house some rather unique toilets, a rear garden space has been recovered and a tower reinterpreted as a belvedere.
It is also important to highlight the technical glass flooring, which contrasts with the language of the stone and hints at the discoveries in the flooring.
