Emma Llorca Curto - Adequació de l’antic pont del ferrocarril de Tortosa al pas de vianants i bicicletes

Adaptation of the former Tortosa railway line bridge into a path for pedestrians and bicycles

Tortosa is a city that is divided by the River Ebro but which only has three bridges, one of which has fallen into disuse, that link the two parts of the city. The project proposes reinstating this link, which has so much significance for the city, by adapting it into a path for pedestrians and bicycles. The idea, therefore, is to recover a forgotten infrastructure.

This is a steel bridge with a lattice girder, dating from 1912, reconstructed during the post-war era. Taking advantage of the fact that the section of the new structure is lower and connects with the city centre, I propose placing a parasite above where I will place a restaurant that offers diners unique views.

To adapt it, I have designed a second wood skin to cover the structure on its inside with greater or lesser height, as required, which absorbs structural differences, protects it from the wind and includes the necessary urban furniture (benches, lighting, handrail, etc.). For the restaurant design, I have taken into account the different landscapes on both sides of the river. This is why I have differentiated the type of furniture and the openings on either side. At the same time, I wanted to break with excess linear elements by using a central space.
