Gabriela Rubio

Writer and illustrator, studied Graphic Design

Education

Studied Graphic Design at Massana (1986-1991) and Novel Writing at the Aula de Escritores (1999-2000). Studied screenwriting for films, thrillers and TV programs as taught in the Master’s in Screenwriting by Rodar y Rodar at the UAB (2009-2011).

Teaching

Coordinator and professor of the course in Illustration for Children’s and Young Adult Literature at EINA, where she also teaches Creative Illustration. She has taught drawing and illustration at Massana and ELISAVA in Barcelona and given many talks and workshops for both children and adults.

Professional experience

As an illustrator, she has published more than sixty children’s books and collaborated regularly with the newspaper La Vanguardia since 2001.

As a writer, she is the author of more than twenty books, from baby books to young adult novels. Some have been translated into Catalan, Basque, French, Italian, Korean and Japanese.

She has received the Lazarillo Prize for illustration, the Apel·les Mestres Prize for Illustrated Children’s Literature and the Patito Feo [ugly duckling] Prize in recognition of her career.
