Rada Akbar, Invisible Captivity

Rada Akbar at EINA

Rada Akbar, conceptual artist and photographer of Afghan origin, will give a talk on her work dedicated to denouncing the oppression suffered by women in her country and vindicating their rights and their role in society and history, on 3 October at 12.30 pm at EINA Bosc.

The event, open to the whole EINA community, takes place in the framework of the programme 'Cultures d'avenir' promoted by the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin (HKW) and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB), with the support of the Franco-German Youth Office (OFAJ).

Rada Akbar's work reveals her position on the limitations imposed on women in her region and uses a variety of media and supports to express this reality, combining painting, photography, textiles, performance and installation, as well as recovering traditional craft techniques and materials.

Rada Akbar began his career in the field of painting before incorporating photography into his visual practices, which he complements with other disciplines such as clothing, sculpture and installation. Despite her youth (35 years old), the artist refers to herself as "an old soul" in reference to the Afghan cultural legacy that she seeks to protect and perpetuate in her work.

After the talk, Rada Akbar will review the work of the students of the Degree in Design in the subject of Contemporary Editions - a fourth-year elective in the Visual Creation degree course - who are currently immersed in a group project of vindicative edition.
