Silvia Gubern, former teacher at EINA; Jordi Colomer, former student of the school and patron of the Fundació EINA; and Ester Partegàs, former student of EINA, participate in the exhibition "The point of sculpture" at the Fundació Miró in Barcelona.
The exhibition, curated by David Bestué in collaboration with Martina Millà, illustrates how sculpture has maintained a tense dialogue with reality, with the embodiment of objects, bodies and stories throughout its history, and how it still maintains links with the first expressions of the sculptural impulse.
"The point of sculpture" offers a journey through modern and contemporary sculptural practice from an asynchronous and heterogeneous perspective that also includes older works and objects without authorship. The exhibition is based on the ambition of 20th century sculpture to go beyond the representation and generation of images and explains the great transformation of this discipline throughout the 21st century, with the application of new techniques and the emergence of new imaginaries and sensibilities.
The hundred or so selected works are presented in seven areas and address issues such as the copying and representation of reality, experimentation with materials, the exploration of physical properties in sculpture, the relationship between object and subject, the relationship between sculpture and time, and the representation of the human figure and the expression of complex emotions such as sexual desire.
"The point of sculpture" begins in the pre-modern period, but focuses above all on the period between the beginning of the 20th century and the present day, with artists such as Antoni Gaudí, Julio González, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, Apel·les Fenosa, Lygia Clark, On Kawara, Robert Smithson, Bruce Nauman, David Medalla, Eva Lootz, Susana Solano, Pipilotti Rist and Wolfgang Tillmans, among others.
The exhibition is open until 6 March 2022.
