Puertas Abiertas (Open Doors) projects an open space for cultural activity and relaxation, where a whole range of activities are to be held, including crafts, painting, music, drawing, handicrafts and computer studies. The aim is foster knowledge and promote the integration of children, young people and residents in general. The space is especially aimed at children and young people, as they are the most vulnerable of the population, with a view to improving their quality of life and that of the community.
The project will take place in Colombia, in a small Valle del Cauca town called Tarragona, which has about 1,100 inhabitants. Tarragona currently has a socio-cultural problem which is the result of a number of factors, including a very low socio-economic level, as most families in this town have very few resources.
The project consists of refurbishing a communal house so that it can be converted into a pleasant, aesthetic and functional space, retaining the essence of the location and using materials, such as guadua (bamboo) and wood to create a warm and modern setting.
