Georgina Vera - Proposta d’un model de turisme slow adaptant l’arquitectura local al nou ús

Proposed slow tourism model adapting local architecture to a new use

This project is an immersion in the slow world, using the desire to restore a typical house in Menorca. The main aim is to revalue and rechannel this type of house, which has become obsolete with regard to its initial use. In this case, the idea is to give the house a small tourism use. Slow tourism is an emerging sector that offers very interesting characteristics and, also, moves away from the mass tourism that harms the visual image of the environment, an essential fact for this project.

The project has been worked on from the point of view of integration, harmony and respect for the environment with a desire to highlight and recover traditional values fused with slow values.

The programme has a dual aspect: on the one hand, we have the application of the requirements to achieve slow accommodation, and on the other is the adaptation of the existing house to make this new use possible.

Consequently, the first use has been situated in the garden, with the formalisation of new constructions, and the second is inside the existing construction. Therefore, this project needs a dialogue between the exterior and the interior, between new construction and restoration, as well as aspects related to “tourist domesticity”.
