1717 Art Gallery

The project is for the renovation of an early seventeenth-century century farmhouse in Sant Feliu de Boada, a mediaeval village in the heart of the Baix Empordà.

The aim of the work is an arts centre and artists’ residence that restores the vitality and charm to this village. Based on this, the project is conceived by combining communal and private spaces for the new habits of users. The public part is the one that will embrace both exhibition spaces and multi-purpose spaces, for workshops and work; and the private part will empathise with the residents’ needs.

The existing architecture will be taken into account during the restoration, which will be enhanced by establishing a language between the new elements and the original space of the house.

The garden will be the meeting point of the exhibition circuit. The exhibition rooms will extend towards the interior and so permit the dialogue of the works with their more natural environment. The aim is to generate a casual, dynamic and flowing space.

The project will give importance both to the multi-functionality of a space according to the degree of privacy and to the respect for the foundations and authentic materials of the farmhouse.

It seeks to attain a timeless, welcoming and functional setting in the rural environment of a farmhouse appropriate to the modern age.
