Workshop with Soraia Gomes. "Escuela de diseño, ¿qué es?"

Last May, the 1st year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Design took part in the workshop "Design School: What is it?", led by EINA teacher Tània Costa and guest designer Soraia Gomes Teixeira. The workshop took place over a week in EINA's gardens, in relation to nature, within the framework of the subject Dimensions of Form and Colour. The exercise invited the students to reflect on how a design school should be through the practice of intervention, that is, to project a space/object that promotes collective discussion and shared use.

The discussion with the students started from the idea that the design school is a space for building a community based on the principles of sharing, equality and public service. A space for learning, experimenting, empowering and reflecting on responses to specific situations. Now, design is also a discipline of research and generation of possibilities for the future. The design school is essential for the ideological construction of the discipline, for the opening of the discussion about the possibilities for the future of design.

The designer Soraia Gomes Teixeira recently exhibited at the Istanbul Biennial the installation Public Devices for therapy as a critical reflection on the intersubjective effects of the physical distancing between people caused by COVID.
