Super collage

Super Collage, 1973

The Colour Workshop taught by Albert Ràfols Casamada featured a collective experience within the framework of the pop art movement that consisted of making a useable collage that people could enter into.

The goal of this educational activity was to establish a dialogue between the architectural space, the interior volume of the classroom, and the chromatic and formal elements that were incorporated into the walls, floor, and ceiling with the aim of understanding how these elements could modify the concept of space in relating to one another.

The activity was based on the use of billboard and giant kiosk advertising posters, wallpaper, and other materials such aironfix, types of vinyl adhesive rolls that mimic other materials such as wood, marble, and more.

Additional pieces of new materials were also incorporated at the time, such as plastic foam or rubber foam.

All these new materials came thanks to the Servei Estació hardware store on Aragó Street in Barcelona, the DIY cathedral, which contributed greatly to the arrival of new materials and construction solutions at the time.

The result was a comprehensive transformation of the wooden annex space built to expand the main hall of Casa Dolcet, the first EINA headquarters.

The experience formed part of the pedagogical revolution during academic years 1972 and 1973, a period in which the traditional teaching system based on a rigid curriculum was abandoned and the subjects were replaced by an ongoing schedule of experimental workshops, courses, seminars, conferences, activities, and participatory performances.

This frenetic activity generated a significant number of communications, and a specific flyer was designed for each one, most of them hand crafted by Albert Ràfols.
