Francesc Ruiz Abad will be giving a talk on 27 November entitled "To paint and not to paint" as part of the subject on pictorial techniques taught by Gino Rubert on the Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Illustration and Visual Communication Techniques.

Francesc Ruiz Abad (1990) is a painter, but he doesn’t want to close himself away in his studio 24/7. He needs to discover the world. That's how a hitch-hiking road trip came about that took him from Calonge to Hong Kong. A journey of initiation, drifting without a destination and getting away from the studio become a starting point for his pictorial practice. The process, the unpredictable and the unknown are more important ingredients than canvas and paint. His language is, then, true action painting that enables him to understand and communicate with the world. To paint and not to paint is very often the question. The painting starts long before marking the canvas.

Based in Barcelona, Francesc Ruiz Abad has won many of the city's major grants, including the Guasch Coranty Grant, the Arranz-Bravo Grant and the Sala d'Art Jove Grant. He has taken part in numerous exhibitions, both in Barcelona and elsewhere. The latest was a solo show in a gallery in Los Angeles. He also has a number of publications, including "I did not know I was collecting", "Curator or the one that takes care of" and "Elefants, sabates i paper".
