Resilience Thinking Walkshop

Columbia University selects Eina’s Resilience Thinking Walkshop, an urban project

Eina’s Resilience Thinking Walkshop project, developed as part of the European SIT-PLU project and coordinated by Rafael de Balanzó, has been selected by the Local Learning Studio (LLS), an initiative launched by Columbia University that identifies leading international projects in urban learning, sustainability and the promotion of the SDGs. Eina is currently the only institution in Spain selected for this international platform.

Local Learning Studio is an initiative promoted by the Center for Sustainable Urban Development at Columbia University’s Climate School, in collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The platform identifies and promotes innovative international projects that work through eco-social transition, education and citizen participation to address contemporary global challenges.

Resilience Thinking Walkshop is a project by Rafael Balanzo (Pratt Institute), Elvira Pujol Massip and Joan Vila-Puig (SITESIZE), and Francesc Magrinyà (UPC/Agrotech).

The Eina project can now be viewed on the official LLS platform:

As part of the UIA 2026 International Congress of Architects in Barcelona, the official presentation of the Local Learning Studio project will take place in the city on 30 June 2026, during a session led by Eina. The event will feature Natalie Mossin, director of the LLS, and Pernille Barnheim, associate director, as well as the directors of Eina, Tania Costa and Javier Nieto, and Rafael de Balanzó Joue.

The session will also include contributions from Rafael de Balanzó (Pratt Institute), SITESIZE – Elvira Pujol Massip and Joan Vila-Puig –, Francesc Magrinyà (UPC/Agrotech), Catie De Balmann and Tania Costa (Eina-UAB), alongside a delegation of participants and students from the MURAD programme linked to the Walkshops.

The Resilience Thinking Walkshops projects propose an interdisciplinary methodology based on urban experience, situated research and collective participation to reflect on resilience, the right to the city and sustainable futures. Their incorporation into the Local Learning Studio consolidates the international reach of this initiative developed by Eina and reinforces the institution’s role in global debates on the city, sustainability and pedagogical innovation.
