Alex Mitrani professor at EINA, is curator to the exhibition “Joan Vilacasas in Paris, from the bohemian to Yves Klein”, that can be seen from May 20th to June 20th at Centre d’Études Catalanes of the Université Paris-Sorbonne, in Paris. At 5pm on May 20th, the opening Round Table “Vilacasas: figurative writer, abstract painter”, will take place, with the participation of Enric Casasses (poet), Joan Josep Camacho Grau (poet) and Alex Mitrani, moderated by Mònica Güell (Universitat Paris-Sorbonne).
Joan Vilacasas (1920-2007) lived in Paris between 1949 and 1959, decisive years in which he gave way into abstract art, creating his well-known “planimetrics”, informalist art work pieces of cartographic inspiration. Vilacasas acquired then a deep knowledge of the artistic society of the time, experiences that were reflected in original novels such as Doble Blanc (Doble White) (1959), in which he makes account of his friendship and collaborative contact with French artist, Yves Klein.
