Self-Assembly: Adriana Knouf

Adriana Knouf’s practice focuses on topics such as wet media, space art, and queer and trans futurities. She is the Founding Facilitator of the tranxxenolab, a nomadic artistic research laboratory that promotes entanglements among entities trans and xeno.

Her film, Temporal Transfer Orbit (TTO), places us on an existential vector that breaks free from the repetition of the same and navigates us to another spacetime. Such a temporal transfer orbit requires inputting energy—researching, practicing, living—and is closely connected with Knouf’s trans and queer explorations of life in outer space. Drawing upon the history of transgender desires for extraterrestrial encounters, the film is a speculative experiment on satellite construction and spatial missions for queer and postcolonial futures, which position themselves as a resistence to its contemporary commercial, military, and expansionist ends. Knouf proposes a shift to a new orbit through a change in trajectory—both a political and a social one, as well as materially—where transfeminist possibilities in outer space also include the non-human experience.

The presentation of Temporal Transfer Orbit (TTO) will be followed by a conversation between Knouf and Manuel Cirauqui, director of e i n a i d e a, on 1 June 2023 at 18:30h.
