THE FOUNTAINS TRAIL is a design proposal for locating, finding and learning about the 47 natural fountains in the municipality of Castellterçol. In the past, they were the focus of activity in the village and were part of the local heritage. But over the years, the tradition has been lost and many of them have fallen into disuse, disrepair or been covered over.
The idea behind the project is to recover the culture and history of the village through its fountains. It will also re-evaluate them, putting them to new use, not just as natural springs, but also as places of interest to visit and learn about. The main objective is to make them accessible to the village and hikers. The result is a unified communication system of three parts: signposts, map and guide. Each one has unique information that is also complementary to the others.
The lynchpin of the entire project is the reflection of water. Nature offers a whole number of examples of how we are reflected in water, just like a mirror. It is very common to see this effect in landscapes next to rivers and lakes where water and the land merge. This helps integrate the project into the context.
