The former Sitges abattoir is a building of historical interest and an emblem for the inhabitants of Sitges. Direct knowledge about the building and its evolution facilitates analysis both of its virtues and its shortcomings and the search for possible solutions adapted to a new use as a cultural facility.
The aim is to recover the original sense of the building by stressing come of the features that have deteriorated or been lost and which I consider essential. The project consists of transforming the building into a modular auditorium that can be adapted to a wide range of performances, both in the scenic or musical arts, as well as conferences and events. Consequently, its shortcomings as regards sound need attention. This current defect of the building becomes one of the main challenges. Its acoustics will be developed using new added materials and their positioning in relation to the stage until the whole carcass of the building ends up becoming the music box. Analysis of the acoustics demonstrates that the proposal is feasible.
Therefore, the aim is to develop the acoustics based on the design, respect the age of the building and, finally, achieve an aesthetic and functional result.
