The trades and crafts led by women in Catalonia have often been overshadowed by other activities that form part of the country's productive wealth. Although it is true that we are at a time of resurrection of some specific crafts, these practices, historically led by women, are now experiencing a situation of emergency.
With the aim of vindicating, extolling and understanding the complexity of maintaining this cultural and artistic heritage, the shelter is proposed as a space for transmission and reflection, to get to know and talk about this emergency reality through the testimony of seven women artisans in the country.
They are seven witnesses gathered from four different territories. Seven lives. Seven stories that make up four worlds: the world of puppeteers, the world of the llatadoras (a person who works in making hemp, esparto grass, etc.), the world of the menders and the world of the lace-makers. Four worlds told through seven craftswomen. The shelter symbolises the safe place in the face of emergency and is the ideal space to listen, reflect and, in the meantime, talk about these complex but essential lives.
