The subject of the Final Degree project is the renovation of a building dating from 1790 to convert it into a public facility, in this case into a music school in Alcarràs, a town of approximately 9,000 inhabitants very near to the city of Lleida.
The idea for this project grew out of a dual need that the town has: on the one hand, to restore part of its historic heritage, and on the other, to renovate a space that will be able to answer one of the town’s needs. The aim is to offer a new music school that is modern, functional, attractive and represents the cultural policy of the town.
The concept is to create a light, open space that integrates the building’s interior space and exterior space, at all times conserving and respecting the elements of its heritage. This achieves the creation of an open space, emptying the central part of the building, which unifies the four floors thanks to a staircase that runs through the centre of this great light-filled opening. The interior space is fully integrated with the exterior with a continuous flooring that leads from the main entrance to the building to the exterior courtyard by steps and stairs and that continues to the bar situated in a front building.
