Lastcore

Lastcore

This project is an experimental investigation into an emerging aesthetic that, until then, lacked a name and defined characteristics. My interest arose from the observation of various aesthetic currents (maximalism, coquette, decora kei, posthumanism, hyperpop, kitsch, camp, among others), the study of urban tribes and the understanding of how our accelerated contemporary reality shapes forms of expression.

Lastcore comes from an acronym of four concepts that define this aesthetic: longing, assemble, superposition and transpose. These elements form the word "Last", which symbolizes the culmination of current nostalgic trends. This aesthetic arises from youthful precariousness, using nostalgia as a communication tool and as a refuge from the dizzying speed of modern life. It is characterized by recycling, pasting and storing content in response to its environment, where thanks to the hyperconnectivity of the Internet it expands globally. By studying graphic artists such as Qingzi Gao, Suzy Chan and Anna Haas, it has been possible to define the conceptual universe that unites all the artists that make up the Lastcore universe.

This project is not limited to the theoretical level, but takes the form of an exhibition, allowing a deeper exploration of this form of expression and fostering both visual and emotional connections. The exhibition invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the essence of Lastcore, creating a space where typical elements of the 2000s (such as Pop magazines stacked to provoke visual overstimulation) and the designs created with this aesthetic evoke how technology constantly bombards us with content.
