Clara B. Zambrana Allés - La Posada, escola de kitesurf a la badia de Pollença, Mallorca

La Posada, kitesurfing school in Pollença Bay, Mallorca

La Posada was built in 1965 during the tourist boom on Mallorca, but is currently abandoned and in disrepair. The project consists of renovating it and turning it into a kite surfing school, a sport that has been on the rise in the area for a few years. This avoids waste that would require the building be demolished, with specific facilities created that are absolutely necessary and feasible.

The design of the school aims to imitate the surfing lifestyle: simple, austere, with no ties and one that enjoys moments of freedom to the full. With this idea in mind, I have chosen to use white combined with natural pine, a cheap material which is not that popular but which offers many possibilities. Linking the different rooms are continuous floorings and modular and traditional elements of the island that bring a sense of dynamism and range of textures to the space.

The façade has also been modified using a double skin of reeds, which are indigenous to the area, that the building uses to mimic its closest natural environment.
