Inter-generational Centre in Banyoles

The principal element of the project is an inter-generational centre where young people and children who need to be in a care home will live alongside each other, as well as elderly people who have to live in a geriatric home. The intention of the project is for the different users to complement each other voluntarily and reciprocally, to exchange learning, ideas and values with the aim of producing individual and collective affective and beneficial bonds.

This transfer of vitality is the principal concept of the project while the principal aim is to foster spaces of relationship between the users.

The centre is situated at the Mirallac hotel in Banyoles. The proposal has consisted of distributing the space in three central nuclei that tauten and articulate the rest of the space, which is free and open-plan.

The intention of the three nuclei is to enhance hybrid encounter. The resource used to achieve these spaces of relationship has been flexibility, which is achieved through translucent polycarbonate walls and a series of curtains that transform the space depending on the needs of the activities to be carried out there.
